In the past several years, children with developmental disorders but without intellectual retardation were being admitted to special support schools. This was causing new problems in student guidance. In this study, a questionnaire survey had been conducted on special support school on the issues and actions taken in dealing with guidance of such children. The findings revealed the need to deal with conduct in violation of the law or that can potentially lead to juvenile delinquency. For this reason, cooperation with the police and other related organizations became necessary, in addition to support from welfare and medical institutions. In addition, development of an internal system for schoolwide support, rather than delegating the tasks to the homeroom teacher, was urged to address the issues. Among these children, there were quite a few who showed little work incentive and showed signs of becoming isolated and reclusive, and refusing to venture out of home in the future. For this reason, guidance on career paths centering around skill workshops was inadequate for them. A new educational approach focused on developing work motivation while building experience in social interaction was called for. |
