The purpose of this study was to investigate factors directly contributing to satisfaction with the medical service received by cancer patients. We conducted a questionnaire survey among 1,957 patients who were diagnosed with cancer in 2015 and received initial treatment at 12 designated cancer care hospitals in Akita prefecture. The survey was conducted by mail between September and October 2017. We evaluated the satisfaction with medical service received, consultation function, social life, and employment. We then divided the patients into two groups depending on whether their satisfaction scores were less than 80 points or 80 points or more. Answers were collected from 907 （46.3%） cancer patients or their families. Of these, the satisfaction scores from 763 patients were analyzed, 615（ 81%） from the patient him/herself and 148（ 19%） from the family. The medical satisfaction of the patient was related to “consultation on the employment by medical staff,” “seamless transfer to other hospital,” “financial support,” and “residence.” The satisfaction of the family was related to “receiving team medical care,” “reducing pain,” “peace of mind for current treatment,” and “help by medical staff.” It is necessary to provide support through multidisciplinary collaboration to meet the holistic needs of cancer patients. |
