Congenital vaginal agenesis is a rare developmental anomaly of the Mullerian duct that occurs in approximately 1 out of every 5,000 live births. The patient was an 18-year-old woman who presented with primary amenorrhea due to vaginal agenesis. She had a functional uterus. Hysterectomy was performed at the same time as vaginoplasty with a new method that uses oxidized regenerated cellulose for covering the new vaginal wall. Postoperatively, a mold was placed in the neovagina continuously. There were no complications after surgery and the neovagina became completely epithelialized. One year after surgery, the vaginal cavity was of sufficient width and length and free of any adhesions. Vaginoplasty using oxidized regenerated cellulose is a simple, noninvasive method with easy management. |
