内容記述 | A developmentally disabled person is likely to encounter difficulties when relating with people in his or her surroundings. For this reason, the person is inclined to have little self-esteem and is vulnerable to outbreak of a secondary disability if adequate support is not provided. In this research, the term "the place to stay" is defined as a place or group activity where a person who lost incentive to participate in society for one reason or another is to renew incentive for social participation with the support of friends and supporters. A questionnaire survey was conducted on the support centers for the developmentally disabled across Japan. Interviews were also conducted with workers at the Support Center for the Developmentally Disabled A. The current state of support and issues in finding "the place to stay" for these disabled persons were studied with the information collected. The information revealed the following findings. Firstly, "the place to stay" support by support centers for developmentally disabled persons can be classified largely into three types. And, in all of these support activities, the aim is to foster "self-understanding" and "interpersonal skills" of the support center user. Secondly, it is now necessary to conduct studies in the functions and requirements for these centers, In view of the ever-growing importance of their role in communities, further improvement of their functions is needed. | |||||
