内容記述 | Anxiety is an unpleasant emotional state that can be detrimental to the learning process by taking focus away from the task at hand. Learning to control anxiety and other detrimental emotions is one factor in becoming a more effective learner. The purpose of this baseline study was to assess comparative levels and primary sources of language anxiety among freshmen in 3 majors (Health Sciences, School of Education, and International Language and Culture Studies) at Akita University. A total of 69 students participated in the study. Two survey instruments were used: the Foreign Language Classroom Anxiety Scale (FLCAS) (Horwitz, Horwitz, & Cope, 1986) and a Background Information Survey. The findings of this study revealed that students in Health Sciences and School Education have higher levels of language anxiety than students majoring in International Language and Culture Studies. Moreover, the students in all majors surveyed in this study showed relatively high levels of anxiety compared to foreign language students in other FLCAS studies. | |||||||
