The picture collage is a composite of cuttings from magazines glued to a sheet of paper. The first picture collage used in this study is a regular style collage, and the second was reinforced with thick paper and constructed to stand by bending the bottom part. Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficient was used to investigate the relationship between intellectual function measured by a revised version of Hasegawa's Dementia Scale (HDS-R) and the number of pictures and the number of themes found in the patient's collage. The correlation coefficients between the Hasegawa scale score and the total number of pictures that were used to construct a collage, the number of themes and the number of pictures that were related to each other were statistically significant for the standing picture collage. Significant differences were found in the total number of pictures that were used to construct collages, the number of themes and the number of pictures that were related to each other in collages made by the group of patients with and the group of patients without dementia.
