In so doing, emphasis is placed on the importance of writing a senior thesis at the university level. Since implementation of a new curriculum at Akita University in 1998, senior students have been required to take two courses offered through the Course in European and American Cultural Studies in the Program of International Language and Cultural Studies (Faculty of Education and Human Studies). These courses are \"Seminar on Senior Thesis Guidance\" and \"Seminar on the Production of Senior Thesis.\" Students majoring in European History are also required to take the course \"Seminar on the History of Europe.\" In these threes courses in general, and in Seminar on the Production of Senior Thesis in particular, a focus is placed on helping students complete their senior thesis by having them report an abstract of their progress on a regular basis. Each student is provided with a set of constructive suggestions at each session.
