内容記述 | The purpose of this paper is to formulate several perspectives on the "historic environment" and tourism through the case of Kakunodate-machi (Akita Prefecture), which is famous for the cityscape of Samurai residents and one of the most famed tourist spots in Japan. The "historic environment" is mainly the built environment - buildings and its surroundings - which has long historic continuity and is regarded as "historic heritage," but it is obvious that the value, meaning and positioning of a built environment as "historic heritage" is not naturally given. Its value of "historic heritage" or "historic environment" was constituted in a certain historical, cultural and social contexts, so that this paper focuses how an environment is constituted as a "historic environment," especially in the case of Kakunodate-machi. Agency for Cultural Affairs selected the district of Samurai residences in Kakunodate-machi as one of "Preservation Districts of Groups of Important Historic Buildings" in 1976. This was the most important moment for the positioning and constitution of Kakunodate-machi's cityscape as a "historic environment," for this was the first time the cityscape was defined officially.and socially as a "historic environment," but there were other more hidden moments or backgrounds behind it. This paper proposes a campaign of national railway company in 1970s, modernism/postmodernism in architectural thought and urban planning, and the transformations of theoretical discussion on the Japanese tradition and culture postwar era as parts of these hidden moments, and considers the recent special emphasis of.Japanese government on tourism policy related to "historic environment." | |||||||||
