I measured room temperatures in houses in an old residential area in a suburb of Akita City, where outdoor temperatures fall well below freezing in winter. More than 90% were wooden single-family houses that were owned by the residents. The older the resident, the older the house with less heat-insulating window glass. The temperature in living rooms in houses where older residents lived was 18 - 22 ˚C. However, the temperature in bathrooms and changing areas for bathrooms was below 10 ˚C. The difference in temperature was as much as 15 ˚C. However, an insignificant percentage of older residents felt chilly or experienced shivering in their house.
