However, few reports have so far shown these drugs to improve the quality of diagnostic EGD. We evaluated the requirement of anti-peristaltic premedication and the efficacy of the selective use of L-menthol. Methods : 173 patients who underwent EGD screening were enrolled prospectively. Endoscopy was performed without the administration of any anti-peristaltic drugs. The degree of gastric peristalsis was assessed when the endoscope reached the antrum. Gastric peristalsis was classified into three grades : none, mild or severe. When gastric peristalsis was severe, 20 mL of 0.8% L-menthol was sprayed endoscopically on the gastric mucosa. Thereafter, we again assessed the grade of peristalsis and measured the time interval until peristalsis was suppressed. Results : The peristaltic grade observed without the use of any anti-peristaltic drugs was none or mild in 88.5% of the patients. After spraying L-menthol, the proportion of subjects with severe peristalsis was 0.0% and EGD screening was performed satisfactorily. Conclusions : The routine use of premedication with anti-peristaltic drugs during EGD screening may not be necessary. When severe peristalsis interferes with precise observation, the use of L-menthol is easy and sufficient.","subitem_description_type":"Other"}]},"item_10001_identifier_registration":{"attribute_name":"ID登録","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_identifier_reg_text":"10.20569/00003332","subitem_identifier_reg_type":"JaLC"}]},"item_10001_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"秋田医学会"}]},"item_10001_source_id_11":{"attribute_name":"NCID","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"AN00009294","subitem_source_identifier_type":"NCID"}]},"item_10001_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"03866106","subitem_source_identifier_type":"ISSN"}]},"item_10001_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Onochi, Kengo"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Gotoda, Takuji"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Mashima, Hirosato "}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Kusano, Chika "}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Iijima, Katsunori "}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2017-07-28"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"akitai43_3_4(99).pdf","filesize":[{"value":"581.1 kB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_note","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"akitai43_3_4(99)","url":"https://air.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/2967/files/akitai43_3_4(99).pdf"},"version_id":"26ca3776-c88e-48e2-91c9-5ebeb334b6ac"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"Screening","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"L-Menthol","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Gastric Motility","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Peristalsis","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Gastrointestinal Endoscopy","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"On-Demand Use of L-menthol May Substitute for the Routine Use of Anti-Peristaltic Drugs in Esophagogastroduodenoscopy","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"On-Demand Use of L-menthol May Substitute for the Routine Use of Anti-Peristaltic Drugs in Esophagogastroduodenoscopy"}]},"item_type_id":"10001","owner":"17","path":["1132"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"公開日","attribute_value":"2017-07-28"},"publish_date":"2017-07-28","publish_status":"0","recid":"2967","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["On-Demand Use of L-menthol May Substitute for the Routine Use of Anti-Peristaltic Drugs in Esophagogastroduodenoscopy"],"weko_creator_id":"17","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2023-07-25T11:29:38.786613+00:00"}
