| 内容記述 | This paper analyzes the results of the national investigation on English language teaching implemented in 2013 by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, with an aim to explore issues of English language teaching in junior high schools in Akita Prefecture. The analysis focuses on the sections such as Japanese junior high school students' English abilities, the extent to which English is used in English classes, and English abilities of Japanese teachers of English (JTEs) teaching at junior high school. The analysis revealed that the ratio of JTEs with English certificates is considerably lower than the national average, while the ratio of students with English certificates and the ratio of JTEs who use English in English classes are higher. These findings suggest a need to encourage JTEs in Akita Prefecture to take English proficiency tests, as the development of their English skills enables them to make their classes a place for real communication, leading to the improvement Akita University 第37号 2015年115 of students' proficiency in English. In addition, the findings suggest a need to encourage JTEs to make use of the learner achievement goals in the form of "Can-Do lists" for evaluation of students' academic performance. |
