With a small telescope adapting a webcam, the authors can obtain images of the Sun. This portable telescope enables us to send solar images from outdoor to class rooms especially for solar eclipse observation. In 2012, the authors carried out remote classes for high school students in Shikoku area and junior high school students in Tohoku area to provide annual solar eclipse images from annual solar eclipse zone in the northern part of Kanto and the southern part of Tohoku areas, Japan. Two mobile stations in the zone could connect to these schools with the Internet and succeeded to send eclipse images. On the basis of results of the questionnaire research after the classes, both of the high school and the junior high school students were increased interesting to observe an annual solar eclipse. In short, the mobile solar telescope utilizing webcam is useful for remote classes in middle school level. |
