| 内容記述 | This article aims at examining the social meaning of grave keeping activity at Jeju province, Korea. For the residents of this region, the activity is called as beolcho or sobun, namely "to mow the grass on grave," and is considered as the most important activity on the graveyards. The reason is that they can reconfirm their graves and claim their right to keep the graves at that place for other persons. The membership of patrilineal lineages and its segments is accompanied by the obligation to participate in it. When the number of members was not enough to finish all graves, they could call for help to non-patrilineal kinspersons like wives, daughters, and sons-in-law. Therefore, we may need further studies on the practice to keep physical form of graves as same as on the rituals at graveyards. | |||||||
