This study aimed to develop a psychological scale to assess the“predictability of the environment”for first-year university students. Through a preliminary survey, items related to“unpredictability of the environment accompanied by feelings of distress”were collected from first-year students. In two subsequent surveys, important items were identified based on their correlations with stress, and the scale was constructed. The scale comprised three subscales:“academic and cultural aspects,”“interpersonal aspects,”and“external environmental aspects.”Analyses confirmed the construct validity of the scale.
