内容記述 | This study explores the differences of second language education between in Japan and in Spain, focusing on how these differences influence students' communicative abilities. Although efforts have been made to improve English education in Japan, many learners still face difficulties in achieving conversational proficiency. In contrast, Spain demonstrates effective language education practices, particularly in teaching regional languages and Spanish as a second language. To investigate the reasons behind these differences, this study compares English education in Japan with “Spanish as a Second Language” programs in Spain. Data was collected through curriculum analysis and an interview with a language educator who has extensive experience teaching multilingual learners. The findings suggest that English education in Japan places a strong emphasis on extensive vocabulary and complex grammar, which leaves limited opportunities for self-expression. On the other hand, language education in Spain encourages active communication by using essential vocabulary and fundamental grammar structures. To bridge this gap, I designed and implemented classroom activities using ICT tools such as Google Meet and LoiLoNote. These activities encouraged students to express themselves using the vocabulary they already knew. The results indicate that this approach helped students develop better communicative abilities and a mindset geared toward effective self-expression. This study suggests that incorporating communicative approaches emphasizing self-expression could enhance English education in Japan. |
