| 内容記述 | Purpose : Cytomegalovirus （CMV） infection is the most frequent congenital infection. Although symptomatic congenital CMV infection is expected to affect 15 to 30 patients in Akita over a 10-year period, no comprehensive survey has been conducted. Subjects and Methods : A retrospective survey of medical records of children with symptomatic congenital CMV infection born during 2012-2022 in 14 secondary and tertiary medical faculties in Akita was conducted. Results : Six patients were identified. Four cases were suspected owing to elevated direct bilirubin or hepatobiliary enzymes, whereas the other two were suspected due to elevated maternal CMV antibody. Four and two patients were diagnosed by detection of blood or urine CMV DNA and elevated serum CMV IgM, respectively. Abnormal brain findings were observed in three patients. Antiviral therapy （ganciclovir or valganciclovir） was provided to five patients. Among the treated subjects, two patients exhibited developmental delay and three patients exhibited hearing loss. Conclusion : Many symptomatic congenital CMV infections remain possibly undiagnosed. Since early antiviral therapy has been expected to reduce the neurological sequelae, early diagnosis is increasingly important. Therefore, it is necessary to establish an effective screening system for early detection of congenital CMV infections in Akita. |
