The purpose of this study was to identify the kinematic factors of the lower extremities required to perform FES-rowing through the biomechanical analysis. Eighteen healthy adult men participated in this study. A mathematical model was developed to analyze the conventional rowing with or without handle and FES lower extremity extension exercise. During rowing with handle, maximum hip, knee extension and ankle plantar flexion moment was 23.5± 4.5 Nm (Mean±SD), 2.5±3.1 Nm, and 11.9±2.5 Nm. During rowing without handle, maximum hip, knee extension and ankle plantar flexion moment was 8.0±3.9 Nm, 4.1±4.0 Nm, and 7.9±2.6 Nm. During FES lower-extremity extension exercise, maximum hip, knee extension and ankle plantar flexion moment was 4.7±2.7 Nm, 4.8±2.9 Nm, and 7.5±1.8 Nm.
