The purpose of this study is to clarify the slurry erosion behavior of aluminum base composites. Using three kinds of specimens (pure AI, Al-40%Si containing coarse Si particles and Al-40%Si-P containing fine Si particles), slurry erosion test was conducted for 1.26 X 10⁵sec(35h) at 293K(20℃) and 313K(40℃) under a constant slurry speed of 8.55m/sec. Sand concentration in the slurry was changed from 5 to 40vol%. After the slurry erosion test, amount of weight loss percentage was measured and the microstructure of the specimens was observed. The results obtained are as follows. (l) Slurry erosion resistance increased in order of pure AI, Al-40%Si and Al-40%Si-P. (2) Effect of temperature on slurry erosion behavior was hardly observed. (3) It was found that there were two different slurry erosion behaviors depending on the sand concentration in slurry. These behaviors were discussed concerning with slurry erosion mechanism of Si particle dispersed aluminum alloys. |
