内容記述 The author restudied the results of a questionnairing survey on teachers' attitude to the
newly established subject: life environment studies. The survey was performed in autumn of
1992, half an year after the national full-scale start of the subject, and nearly 90% of teachers
taking charge of the subject in Akita Prefecture replied to it.
Through the study, the followings were revealed,
1) Nearly 40% of the repliers thought that their classwork of the subject was going well and
the new subject was well significant. On the other hand, 22% of them doubted the
significance of the subject, and 36% of them judged that their classwork of the subject failed
to obtain sufficient result.
2) In their twenties, the proportion of those who expressed a doubt about significance of the
subject was obviously lower than in elder groups. This feature found in the digenerians was
especially marked in a sub-group of those who did not make clear expression whether they
felt inclined to take charge of the lower classes or not. Members of the sub-group seemed
to tend to be unable to have their own view about classwork.
3) In those whose classes were of 20-29-children size, the proportion of ones who thought
their classwork of the subject to be insufficient was clearly higher than in those taking
charge of classes of smaller or larger sizes.
4) Nearly 10% of the repliers thought that their view about classwork was seriously
affected through practice of the subject, and 62% of them felt affected a little.
Content of the change in view about classwork awared by the repliers themselves was
rather unified, regardless of whether they accepted significance of the subject or not, and
whether they frequently read periodicals and books on the subject or not. This suggests
that official training and public relations deeply affected teachers' view about classwork.
5) Comments described in the questionnaire showed that liveliness of children in class of the
subject produced deep impression on the teachers and that many of them suffered from
various loads characteristic of the subject.
On the basis of these results, the author argues that the new subject in the present form
directs to unifying children's feeling for and actions to their environment and, as a result, to
suppressing establishment of their identity. He also argues that the new criteria for grading
children's results of school-work, adopted by the Ministry of Education on 1991, is spreading
the above mentioned trouble on all the fields of school life. He concludes that thorough democratization of procedure to make the national course of study is of urgent necessity for
Japanese public education to recover the people's trust.
