| 内容記述 | Twelve gastric cancer patients over the age of 80 (aged group) treated between 1991 and 1998 were studied in tenns of (1) activity of daily living (ADL), (2) pre- and postoperative complications, and (3) postoperative course of care. This data was compared with that obtained from fourteen gastric cancer patients under the age of 65 (control group). Among twelve patients in the aged group, underlying disorders were confinned in 75%, and two were not operated on, because their ADL was highly or moderately deteriorated. Ten cases in the aged group underwent elective surgery. None experienced severe complications, and all could be discharged from hospital with an "independent" ADL status. However, of the postoperative minor complications, seven out of ten aged patients suffered from symptoms including surgical site infection (in five), fever of unknown origin (in one), postoperative delirium (in one), and neurogenic bladder (in one). On the other hand, in the control group, eleven out of fourteen experienced no complications at all. For gastric cancer patients over the age of 80, surgical intervention can be adopted safely, however it should be minimized and the possibility of a postoperative deterioration in ADL should be considered sufficiently. |
