| 内容記述 | Recently the importance of local neighborhood community has been widely discussed in the various contexts, related to globalization/localization, decentralization, local autonomy, compact-city, social safety-net, social welfare, neighborhood government, aging society, but there is a fundamental question about how to re-organize and re-vitalize the local neighborhood communication and activity under the situation of individualization, urbanization, diversified lifestyles and values, intensified mobility and fluidity, weakening neighborhood relations and developing the space of the virtual, which are the conditions of human beings in modern city and society. The aim of this paper is to reconsider the possibility of local community based on the local, through considering the case of the city of Sendai which is a regional city in Japan to reveal the recent situations of local communities. This paper uses the term the local to distinguish it from "locality". While "locality" means a district or neighborhood, the site or scene of something, the position of a thing, the local is the basis or the focal point (in a sense the real) of representations of local area, culture, history, tradition, people, nature, environment etc., so that the identity as "biography" of the local area and people is constituted around it. This paper suggests the local as "the common" is a fundamental basis of constituting a local commun-ity. |
