内容記述 | Prior to the Second World War, the field of physiological hygienics was taught as a course in junior high schools. Understandably, with regard to the curriculum of biology, a survey of the literature reveals a special emphasis on the human body. Recently, it has become recognized that the educational process of a child can sometimes be , physically hazardous, and that schooling can be fraught with certain dangers. On one hand, there can be bodily damage inflicted by over-exertion during physical trainings; on the other, especially at the college level, alcohol abuse takes its toll. One cannot but be left with the impression, that such damage could be potentially reduced or eliminated if teachers and faculty were to have the appropriate knowledge regarding the human body. Such knowledge, however, has been to a great degree lost. Physical hygienics has been eliminated as part of the curriculum for compulsory education. The reason for this was political: the most effective use of knowledge gained in physiological hygienics was that of dressing wounds sustained on the battlefield and as such was deemed to be part of the mandatory military training of every schoolchild. After the war, all such training was abolished from compulsory education. In 1992, the Japanese Ministry of Education widely revised its issued guidance for school education. In particular, the guidance stipulated the incorporation of many items regarding the human body within the field of studies involving biological subjects. In consideration of present times, which is marked by a prevalence of STD -especially AIDS- as well as other sexual incidents, this new educational guidance seems pertinent. The curriculum for the latter half of elementary school includes male/ female differences as well as, surprisingly, a delivery. It is from this point of departure that the writer would like to describe the early development of frog embryos, with special emphasis upon the educator's understanding of embryonic development. |
