内容記述 The purpose of the present study was to examine appropriate methods of ushiro-ukemi to secure the head and arms from injury in judo. Participants were 50 high school students who attended classes in judo.
They were divided into two groups for two experiments respectively. First, half of the participants performed ushiro-ukemi with both hands; and the other half did so with one hand. Secondly. 24 of participants
performed ushiro-ukemi with attention to their neck. and 26 of them did so with attention to their stomach.
A sloped mat was used to gain speed of falling down in ushiro-ukemi. The study was designed to investigate whether participants hit their head against mats or not and whether they put their hands/elbows on
the mats or not in each ushiro-ukemi performance. Results indicated that increased speed of falling down made it possible for participants to hit their head against mats stronger in both ushiro-ukemi with both hands and with one hand. The possibility of participants hitting their head against the mat was stronger in ushiro-ukemi with attention to the neck than that with attention to the stomach. There was no tendency for participants to put hands/elbows on the mats in all four experimental conditions. Methods of instructions were considered for appropriate ushiro-ukemi. yakusoku-renshu. and jiyu-renshu from the results.
